Changing Project Settings

You'll find your project settings in the Settings tab of your project.

Opening project settings

  1. Open your project.
  2. Click on Settings in the header. (If you don't see the tab, click on the More dropdown menu first.)

Managing assigned users

Under Assigned Users, you'll see all project members along with their project-specific permission roles. Here you can:

  • Add project members: Click on + Add above the list.
  • Remove project members from the project: Click the X on the right side.
  • Make a user the project owner: Click on the checkbox.
  • Change a user's project role: Click on the selection dropdown menu.
  • Access rights management: Click on the Edit Roles link.

Update general settings

In the General section, you'll find these options:

  • Mark project as private - Only the creator and project members can see the project. Check out this article for more information about private projects.
  • Pre-set logged time as billable: For projects created with a client, this setting is automatically active. For projects without a client, it's not. Time logged on the project (or tasks) will automatically be marked as billable. You can change the status for each time entry manually.
  • Set task and project keys: Show or hide task and project keys for this project, and override the workspace setting or use the workspace default.

In the Workflow section, you'll see the workflow selected for this project.

  • Click on the action button on the right to manage the linked workflow, change it, or unlink it.
  • Alternatively, you can choose Link Workflow and select the workflow you want. Map each existing project status and task status to a status from the new workflow. (Note: project and task statuses will be overridden by the workflow.)

Customize project status and task status (board columns)

Project statuses show which phase your project is in and are color-coded to match the four system statuses. You can define which statuses your project goes through and customize their labels. Task statuses are specific to each project.

  • Add: Click the + Add button to create new statuses.
  • Edit/Delete: Use the action button on the right to edit or delete existing statuses.
  • Adjust order: Use the handle on the left side to drag and drop statuses to reorder them.

Tip: If you need the same task statuses across different projects, create a project template with predefined statuses.

Manage custom fields for tasks

Custom fields are created at the workspace level and enabled at the project level. Users with write access to project details can enable the fields needed for the project by clicking the + Add button. Once the field is enabled in the project settings, all users can use the custom fields in the project's tasks.

  • Remove fields from the project: Click the X on the right side.
  • Adjust order: Use the handle on the left side to drag and drop fields to reorder them.

Enable or disable smart alerts

You can turn Smart Alerts (formerly Autopilot) on or off for your project and customize your notification settings.

Manage integrations (Slack or Teams)

If you want to link your project to a Slack or Teams channel, you can do that in the Integrations section.

  1. Add integration: Click + Add to add new integrations.
  2. View integration: After a successful integration, it will be listed in your project settings.
  3. Manage integration: You have the option to remove or edit the integration to filter which notifications are displayed, for example.

Learn more about integrations here.

Create and manage automations

In the Automations section, you can create, delete, or edit automations for your current project.

Each automation only applies to the current project. However, you can also set them up in project templates so you don't have to rebuild them for every project.

Find out here how automations work.

Create tasks via email

Here you'll find the email address for your project if you want to create tasks via email. You can also specify which list these tasks should land in.

This article has all the information you need about creating tasks via email.

Troubleshooting tips

If you can't see the Settings tab, you probably don't have sufficient permissions on the project to view or change the project settings. It's best to reach out to the project owner or the person who created the project.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why don't I see the Settings tab in my project?

You probably don't have the necessary permissions for the project. Contact the project manager or the person who created the project.

What happens when I mark a project as private?

Only the creator and project members can see the project, and time can't be logged on private projects.

What does the "Pre-set logged time as billable" setting do?

When this option is enabled, all time logged on the project or its tasks will automatically be marked as billable. However, you can change the status for each logged time afterward.

Can I use the same task statuses or automations across multiple projects?

Yes, you can use the same configuration in multiple projects. Create a project template to have this configuration predefined when you create new projects.
