Create Your First Project
What is a project in awork?
In awork, work is organized into projects and users are assigned to work on those projects.
Each project has a status that shows whether the project is currently running, hasn't started yet, or is already completed.
Within a project, you can create and edit tasks as well as track time.
In the project overview, you can see all running, planned, and completed projects along with the responsible users, progress, and more.
Create a new project
Click the purple action button in the top right of the app header and select New Project. A popup will open where you can enter a name and description for your project as well as set additional information. You can add or change all of this information later as well.
To add information to your project, click the Add Details button or use slash commands. You'll find a list of available slash commands at the bottom of the screen.
Next, click Continue. You'll now be taken to the project template selection. After that, your project will be created and you'll be automatically redirected to the project.
You'll now find your project in the project overview and, depending on your filter settings, also on your dashboard.
Project status in awork
Every project always has a status. It's always one of four base categories: Not Started (blue), Running (yellow), Completed (green), or Blocked (red).
While you can customize the exact status name and the order in which a project should progress through statuses in the project settings, the four base categories are mandatory.
Important ☝️: The special thing about awork is that often only running projects, meaning projects in the yellow status, are taken into account. For example, under My Tasks, only tasks from running projects are displayed. Similarly, for time tracking, only running projects are suggested.
If you want to get started right away with your new project, change the status to Running.
With or without a customer?
You can assign a customer to your project or create a new customer during project creation. This helps you group your projects by customer or keep projects better organized.
A well-maintained project overview with customer logos just looks fantastic.
Invite your team
Are you still working on your project alone? Then invite your team right away so you can work on the project together.
If you've already invited other users to awork, just add them to your project - either during project creation or through the project details in the project itself.
If you're still the only one in awork, go to the left through the main menu to Users > Invite Users and invite your team to awork first before you can assign them to the project.
Create and assign tasks
Tasks are the heart of every project.
In the Tasks tab of a project, you have three different views available to organize your work:
- The List View: Great for initial structure and creating new tasks.
- The Board View: For agile work. Each column represents a status.
- The Timeline View: For time-based and dependent planning with milestones.
By clicking on a task, you'll go to the task details where you can add due dates, assignees, subtasks, briefings, files, comments, and more.

What else can a project do?
Upload and share files
Within a project, there's a Files tab. Here you can upload files or link them from your OneDrive or Google Drive. All files from your project's tasks will also be displayed here, and you can group them by file type or task, for example.

Make project progress visible
You can visualize project progress in different ways.
- You set a time budget for your project and track time on the project or the project's tasks.
- You measure progress based on completed tasks or all tasks.

Create tasks from emails
In the Settings tab of your project, you'll find a project-specific email address at the bottom. When you send an email to this address, an awork task will automatically be created in that exact project.

Automate project workflows
In the Settings tab of your project, you can set up automations for your project to trigger automatic actions.
Example: When a new task is created, assign the "Project Owner" as the assignee.
