Creating a New Task

Tasks are the heart of work organization in awork. You can write detailed briefs in them, collaborate with your team, track time, and make progress transparent.

To find out what tasks can do and what each field means, check out the article on task details.

How to create a task

You can create tasks in several places:

  • using the quick action button + in the floating action bar at the bottom of your screen: add Task

  • using the shortcut t

  • in a Project: tasks, board, or timeline view

  • by forwarding emails

Create a task using the Quick Creator

  1. You can access the pop-up for creating new tasks in several ways in awork (for example, using the quick action button or the shortcut t).
  2. Enter the title of the task in the text field.
  3. Click on Add details to include additional information.
  4. Save by pressing Enter or click on Save.

After saving, the window stays open so you can create the next task right away.

To close the pop-up, click on the Close icon in the top right, press Esc, or click outside the Quick Creator. Clicking outside only works if you haven't entered any text or additional details yet.

When a task is created successfully, a confirmation message appears in the top right of the window. If you click on it, you'll go directly to the task.

Tip: If you open the Quick Creator to create a task within a project, that project is already pre-selected.

Add details using slash commands

You can add details without using your mouse.

  1. Type / in the task field to start the slash commands.

  2. Type or select the command you want to execute.

A list of available commands appears as soon as you type / while the pop-up is open.

Create a task in a project

  • Click on the + Task button: it's located in the top left of the Tasks, Board, or Timeline tab in a project.

  • Or click on Add task at the beginning of a task list. Alternatively, move your mouse between two tasks to the desired position and click on the + Task or + Subtask button.

Create tasks from emails

You can create private and project tasks by forwarding emails. Find out more here: Creating tasks from emails.

Best practices

  • Use slash commands to add details without your mouse

  • Start in the project if the task should be assigned to the right project right away (the project will be pre-selected)

  • Open the task from the confirmation message to continue working right after creating it
