Use AI credits efficiently
Choose between Fast, Balanced, or Deep Thinking model categories to manage your AI credit usage based on task complexity and avoid unnecessary consumption
This article is for anyone who uses awork AI in their day-to-day work and wants to make the most of their AI credits. You'll learn what affects credit usage, how to choose the right model, and how to keep track of your available credits.
What affects credit usage
Not every AI action uses the same number of credits. That means an agent run doesn't automatically correspond to a fixed number of credits.
The number of credits an AI action uses depends on several factors, including the model used, the amount of information processed, and the tools involved. Credit usage can therefore vary from task to task.
👉 Learn more about the factors that affect credit usage and how it's calculated in the article AI credits and usage.
Choose a model that fits the task
awork offers three predefined model categories:
- Fast is designed for quick answers and simple tasks.
- Balanced is suited to everyday work and most conversations.
- Deep Thinking is designed for complex analyses and multi-step reasoning.
For everyday use, awork recommends the Auto setting. awork chooses the underlying model and the appropriate reasoning level for you.
If you turn on Erweitert below the presets, you can choose the reasoning level and the AI model yourself and manage your credit usage more consciously.
Hover over the available AI models to see their relative credit usage. Choose a model that fits your task: simple tasks don't always need a model designed for complex analyses.
You can also adjust the reasoning level. This determines how much work the model does before responding. A higher level can produce better results for difficult tasks, but it takes more time and uses more credits. Choose a setting that matches the complexity of your task.
Avoid switching models within a thread
You can switch models while a thread is in progress.
This may increase credit usage because switching models resets technical prompt caching.
Keep this in mind when switching models within a thread or comparing the usage of different threads.
Failed AI actions can also use credits
A failed or incomplete AI action can use credits if AI resources have already been used for it.
Credit usage therefore doesn't depend only on whether an action was completed successfully.
Keep track of your credit allowance
You can view your own credit usage directly in awork.
-
Open Account-Einstellungen.
-
Scroll to the awork AI section.
-
Check your AI-Plan (if your workspace has one) and your monthly Credit-Kontingent.
-
Hover over the progress bar to see the credits you've used and the credits you have left.
-
Check the displayed date for the next Credit-Reset.
You'll see a warning when you're getting close to your credit limit.
If your credit allowance isn't enough
Your credits apply to the monthly billing period. Unused credits expire at the end of the month and can't be carried over or pooled in the workspace. Once you've used up your allowance, AI usage is restricted. This doesn't automatically result in additional charges. If you need more credits, contact your admin.
