AI Credits and Usage
Monitor your AI credit allowance and usage across your awork plan, with consumption varying by AI model, context complexity, and input volume
Your available AI Credits show you how much AI usage your plan includes. The actual consumption depends on what an AI Agent or other AI features are currently processing.
Benefits at a Glance
Per User: The credit allowance is generally assigned to each user separately
Transparent: Your current usage and remaining allowance are displayed directly in awork
No Hidden Charges: Using up your allowance doesn't automatically result in additional fees
Your Monthly AI Credit Allowance
AI Credits are technical usage units for specific AI features.
They have no monetary value and cannot be cashed out or redeemed for money.
Your monthly allowance depends on your selected AI plan:
| AI Plan | Credits per User per Month |
|---|---|
| AI Starter | 1,750 |
| AI Plus | 3,500 |
| AI Pro | 7,500 |
| AI Max | 16,000 |
Your allowance applies to each monthly AI billing period.
How Credit Consumption is Calculated
An AI action doesn't always consume the same number of credits. Consumption can depend on several factors:
-
AI Model: Which model is used for processing
-
Context: The scope and complexity of the information being processed
-
Input and Output: The amount of inputs and outputs
-
Processing: The number and type of processing steps
-
Tools and Connections: Tool calls used and external connections
-
Agent: The complexity and configuration of the agent being used
That's why one agent run doesn't automatically equal a fixed number of credits.
Note: Even a failed or incomplete AI action can consume credits if AI resources have already been used for it.
Relative Credit Consumption of Models
In the AI model overview and when selecting a model in chat, we show you how many credits each model consumes compared to our reference model GPT-5.6 Terra. Other models may consume fewer or more credits in comparison.
The relative consumption is displayed when you select a model. Hover over the information to see details about consumption.
Typical Credit Consumption
The following table serves as a guide for agent threads using the reference model GPT-5.6 Terra. Actual consumption depends on factors like your prompt, the reasoning level you choose, the number of tools used and tool calls, and other variables. The values provided are estimates only.
| Agent Type | Typical Credit Consumption per Thread |
|---|---|
| awork Agent (AI Chat) | ~1-18 |
| Custom Agent | ~5-25 |
| Custom Agent - Task Processing | ~11-21 |
| Custom Agent - Project Processing | ~15-22 |
| Custom Agent - Started via Automation | ~17-35 |
Viewing Your Credit Consumption
For Admins
Admins can view the AI plans, credit consumption, and remaining credit allowance for users in the user menu.
Users will be notified before their available allowance is reached.
-
Open Settings
Click on Settings in the left sidebar, then select User under the User category in the middle navigation area. This takes you to user management where all workspace members are listed. -
AI Credits
In the user table, you'll find the awork AI-Credits column, which shows the number of credits consumed in the current period for each user, including the percentage of available credits. Hover over the progress bar to see the details. You'll also see the date when the credits will be reset. -
AI Plan
In the AI Plan column, you can see the current AI plan for a user along with their monthly credits. Change the AI plan by clicking the dropdown arrow and confirm the change.
For Users
You can see your own AI plan and monthly credit allowance in your account settings under the awork AI section.
You'll also see:
-
Current usage as a percentage: Hover over the bar to see how many credits you've used and how many you have left.
-
Date of your next credit reset
When you're approaching your limit, you'll see a warning.
Handling Unused Credits
Unused credits expire at the end of each monthly AI billing period.
Unused credits are not carried over to the next period.
Credits cannot be transferred between users or pooled in your workspace.
Running Out of Credits
Reaching your AI plan's credit limit doesn't completely disable AI.
Instead, you'll switch to a restricted mode. AI features will be paused until the next monthly reset.
In this mode:
- More expensive models are disabled,
- Complex agent features are limited,
- Certain advanced AI features are no longer offered,
- A more affordable model remains available for simple questions and tasks.
This means:
-
AI Agents: Further runs will be paused once your available credit allowance is used up
-
AI Chat: Certain chat features remain available with reduced functionality and/or performance
This means you can still use AI in a limited way even after your regular credit allowance is used up. No automatic additional charges will occur. To get full functionality back, you can upgrade your AI plan.
Increasing Your Credit Allowance
An admin can upgrade a user to a higher AI plan at any time during the current billing period.
The upgrade generally takes effect immediately. Your monthly reset stays tied to your existing AI billing period.
When you upgrade, a new period doesn't simply start. Credits already consumed during the current period are applied to your new allowance.
Changes to Credit Calculation
The way AI Credits are calculated can change, for example if the models we use, providers, or AI features evolve.
Credits already consumed are not affected by such changes.
Important: If a change would significantly limit your typical usage with your current credit allowance, we'll let you know beforehand. The change will take effect at the earliest on the start of the next monthly billing period.
FAQ
Are AI Credits the same as tokens?
No. AI Credits are the technical usage units that awork uses. A fixed number of tokens wouldn't be meaningful enough because of the different models and agent configurations.
Do AI Credits have monetary value?
No. AI Credits are purely technical usage units. They cannot be cashed out or redeemed for money.
Does every AI action consume the same number of credits?
No. Consumption depends on factors like the model, context, inputs and outputs, processing steps, tools, and the complexity of the agent.
What happens if my credit allowance isn't enough?
An admin can upgrade a user to a higher AI plan at any time. Running out of credits doesn't result in automatic additional charges.
