Google Drive/Microsoft OneDrive Integration

Attach files from Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive to tasks, projects, and comments.

Written by Max Raschke

Use the integration when you want files to stay in their original drive, while still being visible in awork.

Key benefits and use cases

  • Attach drive files to work items like tasks, projects, and comments

  • Keep files in your cloud drive while linking them inside awork

  • Share context in comments by inserting a linked file placeholder

Important: When you delete an attached cloud file in awork, only the link to awork is removed. The file stays in your cloud drive.

How to use the Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive Integration

Attach a file from Google Drive or OneDrive

  1. When uploading, select the respective cloud drive. A login window will appear (if none opens, see the troubleshooting section below)

  2. Log in with your account and browse your cloud drive

  3. Select the file you want to attach

  4. The file will then appear in your task, project, or as a placeholder in your comment

Troubleshooting and best practices

If linking files doesn’t work as expected, start here.

The login window doesn’t open

If the pop-up window does not open automatically, your browser is probably blocking it. Allow pop-ups for your awork URL, then select your cloud drive again.

  • Chrome: In the URL bar (top right), click the icon that indicates a pop-up was blocked, then allow it for your awork URL

  • Firefox: In the yellow bar, click Settings and allow the pop-up for your awork URL

  • Safari: Click the blocked pop-up hint in the URL bar (or the small window icon) to open it. If that doesn’t help, your browser may be blocking necessary cookies

  • Edge: In the URL bar (top right), click the icon that indicates a pop-up was blocked, then allow it for your awork URL

Connecting Google Drive fails

If connecting Google Drive to awork fails, your domain may not allow connecting additional apps. Try this: Go to Google Drive > Settings (Gear Icon) ⚙️ > Manage Apps > Disconnect from Drive

Important: If you see Your domain does not allow to connect additional apps, your domain restricts the connection.

Go back to awork and try to attach a file from Google Drive. When prompted to allow the app to access Drive files, select Accept / Allow.

A colleague can’t open the file

A cloud file is only linked to awork. Access to the task or project in awork does not automatically grant access to the file in the cloud drive.

Permissions must be managed in the drive itself.

For Google Drive, you can send a permission request when you open a file you don’t have access to. The easiest way to handle these requests is to connect awork and Google Drive to Slack, so you can approve permission requests with one click.

Reduce how often you need to log in

Save your Google or OneDrive login in your browser so logging in becomes a simple account selection. This is especially helpful if you work with multiple accounts, and it ensures no accounts need to be stored per user in awork.

Turn off Google Drive or OneDrive integration

It is not possible to turn off Google Drive or OneDrive for your awork Workspace.

FAQ

What happens if I delete a Google Drive or OneDrive file in awork?

You can delete the file like a regular uploaded file, but only the link to awork is removed. The file stays unchanged in your cloud drive.

Why isn’t the Google Drive or OneDrive login window opening?

Your browser is probably blocking the pop-up. Allow pop-ups for your awork URL, then select the cloud drive again.

Why does connecting Google Drive to awork fail?

Your domain may restrict connecting additional apps. In Google Drive, go to Settings (Gear Icon) ⚙️ > Manage Apps > Disconnect from Drive. If you see Your domain does not allow to connect additional apps, the domain restriction is the cause.

Why can a colleague see the task but not open the linked file?

Seeing a task or project in awork does not automatically grant access to the file in the cloud drive. File access must be granted separately in the drive.

Can I disable Google Drive or OneDrive for my awork Workspace?

No. It is not possible to turn off Google Drive or OneDrive for your awork Workspace.
