Google Drive/Microsoft OneDrive Integration

Use this integration when you want files to stay in their original storage location but still be visible in awork.

Key Benefits and Use Cases

  • Attach files from your cloud storage to items like tasks, projects, and comments
  • Keep files in your cloud storage while linking them in awork at the same time
  • Share context in comments by inserting a linked file placeholder

Important: When you delete a linked cloud file in awork, only the link to awork is removed. The file remains in your cloud storage.

How Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive Integration Works

Attaching a File from Google Drive or OneDrive

  1. When uploading, select your cloud storage. A login window will open (if no window appears, see the troubleshooting section below)
  2. Sign in with your account and browse your cloud storage
  3. Select the file you want to attach
  4. The file will then appear in your task, project, or as a placeholder in your comment

Troubleshooting and Best Practices

If linking files isn't working as expected, check here:

The Login Window Isn't Opening

If the pop-up window doesn't open automatically, your browser is probably blocking it. Allow pop-ups for your awork URL and then select your cloud storage again.

  • Chrome: Click the icon in the address bar (top right) that indicates a blocked pop-up, and allow pop-ups for your awork URL
  • Firefox: Click Settings in the yellow notification bar and allow the pop-up for your awork URL
  • Safari: Click the notification about blocked pop-ups in the address bar (or the small window icon) to open the window. If that doesn't help, your browser may be blocking required cookies
  • Edge: Click the icon in the address bar (top right) that indicates a blocked pop-up, and allow pop-ups for your awork URL

Google Drive Connection Fails

If the connection between Google Drive and awork fails, your domain might not allow additional app connections. Try this:

Go to Google Drive > Settings (Gear Icon) ⚙️ > Manage apps > Disconnect from Drive

Important: If you see the message Your domain does not allow to connect additional apps, your domain is restricting the connection.

Then go back to awork and try attaching a file from Google Drive again. If you're asked to grant the app access to your Drive files, select Accept or Allow.

A Colleague Can't Open the File

A cloud file is only linked in awork. Having access to a task or project in awork doesn't automatically grant access to the file in cloud storage.

Permissions must be managed directly in your cloud storage.

With Google Drive, you can send an access request when you open a file you don't have permission to access. These requests are easiest to handle if you connect awork and Google Drive with Slack. That way you can approve access requests with just one click.

Reduce the Number of Sign-Ins

Save your Google or OneDrive login in your browser so sign-in is reduced to just selecting an account. This is especially helpful if you work with multiple accounts and ensures that no account information needs to be saved per user in awork.

Disable Google Drive or OneDrive

It's not possible to disable Google Drive or OneDrive for your awork workspace.

FAQ

What Happens When I Delete a Google Drive or OneDrive File in awork?

You can delete the file just like a regularly uploaded file. However, only the link to awork is removed. The file remains unchanged in your cloud storage.

Why Isn't the Google Drive or OneDrive Login Window Opening?

Your browser is probably blocking the pop-up window. Allow pop-ups for your awork URL and then select your cloud storage again.

Why Is the Google Drive Connection to awork Failing?

Your domain might be restricting additional app connections. Go to Settings (Gear Icon) ⚙️ > Manage apps > Disconnect from Drive in Google Drive. If you see the message Your domain does not allow to connect additional apps, this restriction is the cause.

Why Can a Colleague See the Task but Can't Open the Linked File?

The visibility of a task or project in awork doesn't automatically grant access to the file in cloud storage. File access must be shared separately in your cloud storage.

Can I Disable Google Drive or OneDrive for My awork Workspace?

No. It's not possible to disable Google Drive or OneDrive for your awork workspace.
