Slack Integration

Slack is a popular tool for team collaboration and communication across different channels. With the Slack integration for awork, you can publish project updates to channels, create awork tasks directly from Slack, and much more.

Key Benefits and Use Cases

Bring your project work closer to where communication happens:

  • Publish project updates to Slack channels when events occur in a linked awork project
  • Create tasks directly from Slack in the project that's connected to the channel
  • Manage tasks from Slack notifications using buttons in the task message
  • Log time from Slack with Slash Commands
  • Receive awork notifications in Slack through the awork app within Slack

How the Slack Integration Works

Setting Up the Slack Integration

  1. Go to Settings (gear icon in the bottom left of the main menu) > Integrations
  2. Open the integration library and select Slack
  3. Enter your Slack workspace name in Slack and allow access
  4. You'll automatically be redirected back to your awork workspace

Linking Your Slack Account to Your awork Account

You can send project updates to Slack without account matching. However, if you want to interact with awork from Slack, you'll need to link your accounts.

  • Interact with the integration in Slack for the first time and follow the account linking prompt
  • Or type /connect in Slack to link your Slack account with your awork account

Tip: awork messages in Slack are sent in the language of the person who created the link.

Linking an awork Project to a Slack Channel

When a project is linked to a Slack channel, awork can publish project events and updates (like task status changes) to that channel. You can also create tasks for the project directly from the Slack channel.

  1. Open the project details

  2. Click the project action button and select Link to Slack

  3. Choose the Slack channel where messages should be published

  4. Set which events should be published to the Slack channel

The linked Slack channel will be displayed in the project details.

Note: Each Slack channel can only be linked to one awork project. Similarly, only one Slack channel can be linked per project.

Linking a Private Slack Channel

Private Slack channels can only be linked directly within the channel itself.

  1. Open the private Slack channel you want to link

  2. Invite the awork bot by typing @awork in the channel and confirm the invitation

  3. Type /link to open the project selection

  4. Select the awork project you want to link to the channel

To remove the link from a private channel, use /unlink. Notification settings can be configured in the awork project.

Managing Tasks from Slack

When a task notification appears in Slack, you can manage the task directly from Slack. Using the buttons below the task message, you can:

  • Change the status
  • Assign a person
  • Set a due date
  • Add a comment to the task

Creating Tasks and Logging Time from Slack (Slash Commands)

To perform actions in awork directly from Slack, you can use the following Slash Commands:

  • /add [Task] creates a new task in the awork project
  • /comment [Task]:[Text] creates a comment on the specified task
  • /connect links your Slack account to your awork account
  • /disconnect unlinks your Slack account from your awork account
  • /link [Project] links an awork project to the current Slack channel
  • /start [Task/Project] starts time tracking for a task or project
  • /stop stops the current time tracking
  • /unlink removes the link between the awork project and Slack channel

Example: Post /add Create logo design in Slack to create a task named "Create logo design" in the linked project.

Receiving awork Notifications in Slack

After you've linked your Slack account to your awork account, you'll find awork in Slack under Apps. Your awork notifications can be displayed there once you configure this in awork.

You can also use all / commands there, create private tasks, or start time tracking.

FAQ

How do I set up the Slack integration?

Go to Settings > Integrations, open the integration library, select Slack, and then enter your Slack workspace name. Allow access when you're redirected to Slack.

You'll be prompted to do this the first time you interact with the integration in Slack. Alternatively, you can type /connect in Slack.

Why are awork messages displayed in a specific language in Slack?

Messages from awork are sent in the language of the person who created the link.

No. Each Slack channel can only be linked to one awork project, and only one Slack channel can be linked per project.

Open the private channel in Slack, invite the bot with @awork and confirm the invitation. Then use /link to select the project. To disconnect, use /unlink.
